Today is officially the last day of my 21-Day Sugar Detox! It’s after 11pm which means I have successfully completed TWO 21-Day Sugar Detoxes. A miracle, really.
I’m a self-proclaimed sugar addict and not having dessert at the end of every night has just been weird. The first week I would think to myself “yum, I’m going to have an organic carrot and an extra glass of water for DESSERT tonight.” And ya know what? Oddly enough that made me feel like I was still treating myself. Clearly my addiction is more than just a physical symptom. Emotional eating = my middle name.
I blogged about my first 21DSD last year, which had quite a few complications. About 11 days in I “relapsed” on a ton of fruit, and had to start all over again. Which means I really was sugar-free for the longest time in my entire life, about 40 days. As a result I lost WAY too much weight and had no energy at work or in the gym. So to combat the weight-loss issue , this time around I made a few modifications that felt right for my body/energy. I ate sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, and rice a few times a week. I ate a piece of fruit (grapefruit or green apple) once a day. I used 1 tbsp heavy cream in my unsweetened coffee, and I ate cheese a few times a week. I’m a VERY active girl who doesn’t need or want to lose any weight. Yet here I am on Day 21 and I still managed to lose 5 lbs. Grr. This detox is PERFECT for people who want to shed excess weight while kicking sugar and carb cravings naturally.
So I’ve been meaning to do a post about “What I Eat” while on the 21DSD… but I never actually got around to doing it. UNTIL NOW. Hey, its better late than never. If you haven’t seen my post about my Top 15 21DSD Snacks then you might wanna check that out for some helpful tips if you are about to embark on your own 21DSD. Or you can just take a sneak peak into the Daily Detoxing Life of Rachel McClelland:
-Breakfast consisted of two scrambled pasture-raised eggs with a sprinkle of organic cheddar melted in, 2 slices of bacon, some olives, half an avocado, and a whole grapefruit. Oh, I also drank coffee with heavy cream (remember I modified my dairy intake?) and forgot to take a picture.
-Lunch for staff meal was perfectly Primal today! Grilled tilapia, brussels sprouts (our kitchen uses olive oil for everything so I don’t need to worry about any sneaky hydrogenated oils), roasted red potato, and a salad with housemade dressing. Thank God it wasn’t Spaghetti Day…
-At around 5 o’clock I was starting to get hungry so I ate my favorite brand of sardines with a sprinkle of garlic salt on top. Here I am huddled in a corner away from my coworkers who already think I’m weird. Sardine breath? Oh come on. But who knew fish scales and bones could taste so good?
-Then I left work and as soon as I got home I drank more water and killed the last of the granny smith Bare Fruit apple chips. Because I love apples. And this brand it totally 21DSD approved by Diane Sanfilippo herself. The ingredients read: “Apples.” #Winning
-By the time I was hungry for dinner it was well after 8 o’clock. Usually I try to eat before 8 but it’s Sunday and I ate snacks and oh-freaking-well. So I just had some leftovers from a new recipe I made yesterday. Since my leftovers looked like dog crap, I’ll show you a picture from the photo shoot. Chicken Paprikash- still looking like dog crap.
I was debating on whether I should eat a spoonful of cashew butter just because I’m in the pattern of eating that as dessert. But I really don’t feel like it. So I guess this wraps up my twenty-first day of the 21DSD!
This time around I wanted to see with my very own eyes my progress through The 21-Day Sugar Detox. These are before & after photos of myself taken at 10pm the night before starting the detox and at 10pm tonight (the last night of the detox). I don’t think I’ve ever done bikini pics here on my blog so try really really hard to not be a douche and start internet bullying me. Kthanks.
I really prefer my Before weight (124lbs @ 5’7″ tall) rather than my After weight (119lbs) but I love the fact that the cellulite in my butt and thighs has gone down. Ahh the balance between “big butt for a white girl” vs. cellulite. It’s an ongoing battle. I’ll have to eat a pint of Ben & Jerry’s to get that donk back.
JK! Seriously though I’m going to try to continue my sugar-free diet (minus all fruit) for the next few weeks. My rosacea acne/body acne is almost gone. Sugar and gluten wreak such havoc on my skin it blows my mind! If anyone else has similar problems then I’d strongly advice eating a clean and nutritious diet. I still had some make-up on yesterday but my coworker said my skin was “glowing” and my manager said I looked more toned and fit. Neither knew I was on The 21-Day Sugar Detox. Muahaha.
