But I have a confession to make: I cook bacon maybe three times a month, and usually it’s for a recipe. Blasphemy! I know.
But something happened to my breakfast routine, somewhere around becoming single and not giving a fuh. I used to bolt out of bed and start the process of cooking my bacon and eggs with a side of veggies. That took up most of my morning zen, and by the time I was finished I was really full and then had to do dishes before leaving for work. Super lame.
Now I wake up, grab a cup of earl grey with almond milk, and have about ¾ a cup of Greek yogurt topped with honey, nuts, coconut flakes, and shelled hemp seeds. It requires barely any dishes, and leaves me with more time for my morning routine (journaling, meditation, and getting right-sized with the Universe.) And then I can hit the gym before work without feeling like I’m going to barf eggs all over my Reeboks. #Winning.
I know a light breakfast isn’t for everyone. It’s just been my experience that I was eating too much food too early in the morning, and then I wasn’t hungry for lunch… which made me HANGRY for dinner (thus over-eating late at night) and then waking up the next morning to eat another heavy meal. Blegh.
Who knows, maybe if I ever give up my day job and work full-time from home, I’ll be able to make Martha Stewart breakfasts every morning and invite all my imaginary friends over for brunch.
Anyway, today I’m grateful that my biggest problem in life is deciding whether I should download the new FB messenger app or not. High class problems, y’all.
Speaking of FB and gratitude, all these Daily Gratitude Status Update Challenges are getting me in the spirit of living gratefully. At the top of my list is my sister. Her birthday was yesterday and I got to hang out with her all day. And by “hang out”, I mean I helped her reorganize her bedroom and almost crushed her while moving a heavy nightstand. I love you Becka. You make life worthwhile.
