Does it make me a procrastinator if I originally made this recipe back in January for my 21-Day Sugar Detox and never got around to posting it until now?
Didn’t think so.
The first week and a half of my second 21DSD I was supplementing my workout with this smoothie because, as I mentioned, the first time I 21DSD’ed I had NO energy because I think I wasn’t getting enough healthy carbs. This time around I switched it up and allowed myself something starchy every day, and doubled my amounts on days that I worked out.
And so this smoothie was born.
Unsweetened carob powder has a natural hint of sweetness but is totally 21DSD-approved. I discovered baking with carob about a year ago when I realized I was becoming sensitive to the caffeine in chocolate. It turns out there are tons of health benefits for eating carob:
-High in vitamins A, B2, B3, B6, and D.
-Great source of fiber (2 grams of fiber per 1 tablespoon!)
-Rich in iron, calcium, magnesium, and potassium.
-A natural anti diarrheal great for kids and adults alike.
-Not alkali processed (removes antioxidant benefits) and doesn’t contain caffeine.
Obviously if you aren’t watching your sugar intake, I would suggest adding 1 tablespoon of maple syrup. Because those two were made for each other.
